Their next research grant will be named in Erica’s memory. Erica was also a recent honoree for “Be Bold and Behold”, an organization dedicated to raising awareness for metastatic breast cancer as well as raising funds for research. This prestigious award was presented to Erica by the recipient local television station. An avid runner, Erica participated in the annual Philadelphia Broad Street Run with her husband and Team CMMD, volunteered in a commercial for the bone metastasis treatment Xgeva, and was the subject of a recent documentary for which she received an Emmy. Erica has been highlighted in both visual and print media as an advocate for increased funding for MBC research. Throughout her 5-year journey Erica’s advocacy has not gone unnoticed. She gave hope to those newly diagnosed, and she shared her reason for living (her Isobel), with all who followed her. She did not shy away from the unpleasant parts but was honest and truthful about every aspect of her experience with her cancer. This is a forum where she could be raw and real about her day to day living with MBC. Erica started an “Erica’s C News” page on Facebook shortly after her diagnosis. She was relentless in her MBC research and the possible combination of treatments, all with the hope of not only helping herself, but also in potentially helping her sisters, Isobel, and all those who are high risk for this disease. Erica was an administrator to 5 different Facebook advocacy groups. While managing her own cancer treatment, Erica spent the next 5 years advocating for metastatic breast cancer (MBC) research, which she hoped would one day make this horrific disease considered chronic and ultimately curable. She was considered “De Novo” meaning her cancer had already spread and was deemed terminal at diagnosis. She moved back to the Philadelphia area of PA in 2011 to reunite with the love of her life, Joseph Wright and to start a family.Įrica was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer on Jwhile breastfeeding her daughter, Isobel. A persistent spirit, and never one to give up, Erica returned to school in her early adult life and graduated with her BA in Liberal Arts from the University of South Florida in 2009. Erica grew up in Tampa where she forged fierce lifelong friendships along with her immediate family which was everything to her. She lived in Roulette, PA, until she was 2 years-old when they moved to the Tampa, Florida area. Erica was born in Coudersport, PA on Jto Jeffrey and Robin Manning. Utilizing her natural draw towards creative projects, she hopes to amplify social impact work through digital marketing strategies and developing creative content.An exquisitely bright light was extinguished on when Erica Leigh Wright passed away from metastatic breast cancer. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Social Justice and Ethics at Iliff School of Theology. In 2020, she directed the 12-hour Juneteenth production when the celebration pivoted to a virtual platform due to COVID-19. This work has included the Parkinson Association of the Rockies, a leadership studies undergraduate program at the University of Denver, and the Juneteenth Music Festival in Denver. She moved out to Denver in 2013 to lead teams of young adults on service projects with AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) where she fell in love with Colorado and nonprofits.įor the past seven years, Erica has worked with nonprofits in Colorado which grew her passion for social justice work. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, with a concentration in Public Relations, from Augusta University. Having grown up overseas, in the south, and in a bilingual-multiracial home, she values intersectional spaces where individuals can engage with and honor their differences. Erica joined The Holleran Group taking lead on digital marketing to engage communities both on and offline.
